“Stay” is a wonderfully written and heartfel​t story about Alzheimer’s disease told from the perspective of a little bunny.  The bunny and his owner, an Alzheimer’s patient, have a special and loving bond that grows bigger and stronger every day.  They are inseparable, reading bedtime stories, enjoying nature and playing games.  But one day, the patient forgets the bunny on the bookshelf and goes on without him.  Sad and alone, he wishes they could Stay together forever.  Forced to let go, the bunny soon realizes that their love, memories and connections Stay alive in a beautiful loving cycle that never ends.

 

The author offers this poignant children's story with beautiful illustrations that truly explore this unique facet of Alzheimer’s Disease and the bonds of love that never die.  

 

Families may purchase the bunny for their loved one and the book for themselves or both.  

 

All proceeds of the sales of the book will be used to purchase additional bunnies for residents who would like or need one.

About the Author - Stephen Evangelista

​

Stephen graduated valedictorian from Providence College and furthered his academic pursuits at the Harvard Extension School in Boston, Massachusetts.  A dedicated living historian, he serves as a corporate officer and active member of Battery B, First Rhode Island Light Artillery, and is also a proud member of the United States Field Artillery Association.

 

A senior federal executive in the United States government, Stephen serves as Chief of Digital Services at the Social Security Administration and has been a distinguished member of the Senior Executive Service Corps since 2013.

 

Stephen is the author of three acclaimed works on Civil War history. His first book, Our Story: The Lives and Legacy of Those Who Served in Battery B, First Rhode Island Light Artillery(2021), was selected by the Gettysburg National Park Service for inclusion in the permanent collection at the Gettysburg National Park Library and Research Center. The book received widespread recognition from the Rhode Island Publications Society, Adams County Historical Society, Heritage Harbor Foundation, U.S. Army War College, U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center, and the Rupp House History Center in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. It has been featured in Civil War Times and promoted through numerous television, radio, and podcast programs.

 

His second book, Forever Silenced: The Story of the Gettysburg Gun (2024), was also added to the permanent collections of the Gettysburg National Park Library and Research Center and the Adams County Historical Society’s Dr. Charles H. Glatfelter Research Room and Archives. The work was featured on Addressing Gettysburg and shortlisted for the prestigious Gettysburg Bachelder-Coddington Award.

 

In November 2025, Stephen published his third book, No Sacrifice Too Great: The Letters and Diary of Sergeant Albert Aaron Straight, which brings to life the extraordinary story of Sergeant Straight—a Rhode Island volunteer soldier who commanded the famed Gettysburg Gun on July 3, 1863. 

 

Stephen's books have reached readers across the United States and internationally, with sales extending to Canada, France, Italy, and Australia. Stephen is also a featured lecturer at Gettysburg College’s Civil War Institute, one of the nation’s premier platforms for Civil War scholarship and public history.

 

Throughout his distinguished career, Stephen has received numerous honors, including the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara Medal for selfless service, Federal Innovator of the Year, and the Presidential Rank Award—the highest recognition bestowed upon senior federal executives. A committed philanthropist, he donates all proceeds from his books to support educational programs for the modern-day Battery B, First Rhode Island Light Artillery, and to advance the study and preservation of American Civil War history.

 

A native Rhode Islander, Stephen now resides in Maryland with his wife and two children.
